AIDS Awareness Seminar at Peshawar Medical College

Worldwide AIDS Awareness drive started officially when the idea of World AIDS Day was conceived by WHO in 1987 and since then every year the month of December is chosen to coincide with World AIDS Day.
Living up to its tradition of celebrating International Health Days and sensitizing the youth about relevant diseases, Social Welfare Society- Peshawar Medical College organized an “AIDS Awareness Seminar” on 22nd December, 2011 at Peshawar Medical College with the slogan ‘Know it, Prevent it’.
As part of the seminar, Social Welfare Society organized a Short film and poster competition made on the theme of HIV/AIDS that called students and youth of Peshawar to action through artistic interpretation. 18 highly inspirational and appreciable short films and 32 innovative Posters from 11 different institutions of KPK were displayed at this occasion that exhibited creative solutions through their art for the Social stigma associated with patients of HIV AIDS.
Mr. Oussama Tawil, Country Coordinator for Pakistan & Afghanistan UNAIDS graced the occasion as Chief Guest and informed the audience attending the seminar about Facts & figures of HIV/AIDS in Pakistan. He also ensured the audience about the continuous efforts of UNADIS to accomplish their goal of “Getting to zero (new cases).”
The seminar ended with the distribution of cash prizes and certificates to the winners of Poster and Short Film competitions
